Event Description:
Art students from the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee’s Peck School of the Arts will be partnering with Mukwonago Community Library and Alice Baker Memorial Public Library to hold a creative workshop. Student artists will travel to 20 locations throughout Wisconsin this summer to offer creative workshops aimed at providing opportunities for older adults to connect and engage through various creative practices outside of the home, so we are thrilled to have them visiting us this afternoon.
The student artists are part of the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee’s Student Artist in Residence (SAIR) Program. Created by Professor Anne Basting, recent recipient of the MacArthur ‘Genius’ Award, and funded by Bader Philanthropies, the Student Artist in Residence Program pairs art students with organizations serving older adults. The students provide intergenerational connection and creative engagement by holding creative workshops and events. Anne Basting states, “Research shows that engaging in the arts in late life, as a beginner or life-long artist, has multiple benefits for health and well-being. It has been a joy to watch both generations thrive in this program."
No previous experience in the arts in necessary.
