Maple Fest at Elegant Farmer

The Maple Fest syrup demonstrations are conducted by special guest Peter Hatlestad, Nature Director at Covenant Harbor on Saturdays, March 7, 14 & 21, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.  He and his staff will showcase the process used on raw sap to make it into that delicious treat we know as maple syrup.

 Genuine maple syrup comes from the sap of sugar maple trees.  It is harvested in the very early spring when the days are warmer but the nights still have frost.  The United States produces 14 percent of the world’s maple syrup creating 1.45 million gallons in 2007.

 “People enjoy seeing how their favorite foods are made,” tells Farmer John.  “From teaching people about apple varieties or maple syrup making demonstrations, The Elegant Farmer is committed to passing on the gifts of goodness from the farm to our community.”
